The Dolphin Encounter is not a swim Program, but gives you the chance to meet these incredible mammals up close and personal in waist deep water. For all the ages, both fun and educational! US $75 Includes round trip bus transportation. The Dolphin Swim is a 30 min. session with two of our playful dolphins and structured by one of our experienced trainers. The fun interaction includes petting, feeding, and some thrilling surprise interactions. Restrictions apply. The Sea Lion encounter is a comical adventure as you get to meet one of the funniest and most agile animals of the marine world, the southern sea lion. Your program is structured to be both educational and fun. The participants are invited to touch, pet, and feed these fascinating animals and are encouraged to ask the trainer questions. You will also get a hug and kiss along with a flipper handshake, which will make excellent photos optional from our professional photographers. Duration of tour - 3 hours. The Tropical Rainforest is a park within itself. Meander through the winding path over rivers, behind waterfalls and through thick tropical vegetation and animal habitats. The first is a reptile area where the trees are literally dripping with iguanas and snakes. In another area you will find exotic and unusual fresh water fish from the Amazon basin. In the bird aviary you can admire toucans, macaws, cockatoos and other tropical birds that may land on your hand to sip a bit of nectar. The highlight of the Tropical Rainforest is a swim grotto. Here, guests are invited to take a refreshing dip in a grotto with ancient ruins overgrown with thick vegetation and waterfalls. This area blends into the tiger habitat, another one of the premier attractions. The only aerial tramway in the Caribbean is located in Puerto Plata. With it, one can ride up to Pico Isabel de Torres, a 793 meter high mountain within the city. The top of the mountain features a botanical garden and a replica of Christ the Redeemer, the famous statue in Rio de Janeiro. The fortification Fortaleza San Felipe, which was built in the 16th century and served as a prison under Rafael Trujillo's dictatorship, lies close to the port of Puerta Plata. The amber museum is also a well-known attraction in this city. La Isabela, a settlement built by Christopher Columbus, is located near Puerto Plata. In April 1563 the Spanish settlement became notorious when the English privateer Sir John Hawkins brought 400 people he had abducted from Sierra Leone and enslaved. Hawkins traded his victims with the Spanish for pearls, hides and sugars, some gold. This was the start of British involvment in the 'trans-Atlantic Slave Trade', in which 20 million people were forced into slavery. Puerto Plata is served by Gregorio Luperon International Airport, which lies about 15 km east of the city near the town La Union. This is the hometown of NBA player Al Horford.
